Circumcision is a small surgical procedure during which the foreskin – the skin covering the glans of the penis – is surgically removed. Circumcision is not only done for religious reasons, but also for aesthetic and functional reasons. A high percentage of men declare both better hygienic and health benefits after the procedure as well as an improvement in regard to their sexual life. Before the surgery, the patient undergoes a thorough consultation with a specialist, during which they discuss the patient’s expectations and the extent of skin tissue resection.

Course of the intervention

Circumcision at our clinic is an outpatient procedure performed under local anaesthesia. The use of a high quality anaesthetic ensures that the patient does not feel any unpleasant pain. Prior to the operation itself, we recommend that patients shave the site in the area of the genitals. The procedure begins with thorough disinfection and masking of the operation locality. This is followed by resection, i.e. the surgical removal of the foreskin. The wound is sutured with thin, absorbable material, which significantly reduces the scarring left by the procedure. After the operation, the wound is coated with an antiseptic cream and covered with a compression bandage to alleviate post-operative swelling. After several days the patient undergoes a follow-up examination.

Post-operative regime

Immediately after the surgery and the following day, the patient must rest without physical exertion. Until the wounds have healed, it is recommended that the wound be regularly re-bandaged and coated with an antibacterial or antibiotic ointment. Sexual abstinence is necessary until the surgical wound has completely healed.
