When wearing earrings, women often get caught inadvertently on a piece of clothing with subsequent injury/tearing of the earlobe. After the wound heals, a lobe thus damaged is often a source of an aesthetic defect that can limit or even prevent further wearing of the earrings. A similar problem can be caused by the wearing of so-called “tunnels” currently popular among young people. The operation allows for correction, or even reconstruction of such earlobes.
Operation performed
The operation is among the simpler surgeries, depending on the extent and type of damage. It can be done on patients of any age without restriction.
Contraindications
There are no serious contraindications for this operation. v Only people with chronic diseases – for example, with diabetes, reduced blood clotting and people prone to keloid scars – need to be careful about having the procedure.
Pre-operative preparation
The operation requires no special pre-operative preparation.
Course of the operation
The operation is performed under local anaesthesia. This is an outpatient surgery and after the operation the patient goes home. Prior to the procedure, the patient fills in the necessary forms – a questionnaire and consent to the operation. Pre-operative photo documentation is then made.
After preparation of the operating field – washing with a disinfectant and lining the ears with sterile drapes, local anaesthesia is initiated. The operation itself follows – modification and reconstruction of the shape of the earlobe. After surgery, the wounds are covered with a sterile bandage.
Post-operative care
After the procedure, it is advisable to pay attention to the thorough covering of the surgical wounds and to observe proper hygiene. Stitches are removed after 7-10, depending on the scope of the procedure.
