During the procedure excess skin on and around the breast is removed and the breast gland tissue is shaped so that the nipple and areola are moved to a suitable position and the overall projection of the breast is improved. The procedure is intended for clients who have lost breast gland volume with a significant reduction in body weight, with a slackening of the skin on the breast and with atrophy – a reduction in breast gland tissue.
Before the operation
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia; therefore, additional examinations are necessary – an internal pre-operative examination, the results of which indicate whether the client can be operated on or not. Ultrasound of the breasts is also necessary.
Course of the operation
Using a marker, the surgeon marks the client’s skin the place of displacement of the nipple-areola complex. After disinfection and masking of the operating field, the operation itself is performed. At the conclusion of the operation, the surgical wound is drained, if necessary. The wounds are then covered with a sterile cover and the client is dressed in a fixation bra or an elastic bandage.
Post-operative care and convalescence
After the operation, the client remains at the clinic for one night under the supervision of the medical staff. On the following day, the wound is bandaged and the drains are removed. The client is subsequently released for home treatment in the company of another person.
Post-operative examinations are always done after agreement with the surgeon. The first check-up is done no later than 14 days after the operation, when the stitches are removed. During those 14 days, we recommend that the client remain home from work. More strenuous activities can be performed only after 6-8 weeks. It is necessary to wear a fixation bra at all times for a period of 8 weeks.
