SURGICAL MODIFICATION OF INVERTED NIPPLES

If a woman’s nipples are inverted (pushed inward) into the breast, such a condition can be surgically corrected by plastic surgery, which breaks the ligament strips pulling the nipple inwards. This is not only an aesthetic problem; in a small proportion of women with this type of nipple, the condition can cause inflammation and make breastfeeding impossible. Current surgical techniques are to a significant extent gentle on the nipple and milk ducts, so that breastfeeding through the operated nipple should not be compromised in the future (with the exception of severe inverting or in case of repeated procedures).
Type of performance
These operations are commonly performed under local anaesthesia. Though these are simple operations, some clients require general anaesthesia. The operation lasts for about 30-45 minutes.
Post-operative course
The first outpatient check-up is scheduled after 1 week; however, the sutures are not removed, as they are absorbable. A quiet regimen is required for 1 week, and full physical activity is possible after 2 weeks.
